Privacy Policy — Listen Anywhere

Last updated: 14 October 2026
Product: Listen Anywhere (Chrome extension), version 0.2.0

Listen Anywhere ("the extension") reads web pages aloud using API keys you provide (bring your own key). The developer runs no Listen Anywhere server, creates no accounts, and never receives your page text, audio, or keys.

What the extension does

When you start a listen, the extension captures text from the page or selection you chose, optionally sends it to an AI model you configured to rewrite it for listening, splits it into parts, and sends those parts to the text-to-speech (TTS) provider you configured. The audio plays in your browser. While it plays, the popup shows the words and underlines the one being spoken.

What stays on your device

Uninstalling the extension, or Settings → Keys & data → Clear everything, removes the extension’s stored data. Files you downloaded are not deleted.

What is sent off your device, and to whom

Nothing is sent to the developer. Requests go only to the providers you choose, using your key for that provider, under that provider’s own terms and privacy policy.

1. Page text → your voice (TTS) provider (required to listen)

You chooseRequests go to
OpenAIhttps://api.openai.com/
ElevenLabshttps://api.elevenlabs.io/
Geminihttps://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/
xAI Grok Voicehttps://api.x.ai/
Fish Audiohttps://api.fish.audio/
OpenRouterhttps://openrouter.ai/
Mistral Voxtralhttps://api.mistral.ai/

2. Page text → your rewrite provider (optional)

Only if Rewrite for the ear is on and has a key. Otherwise the text goes straight to the voice provider.

You chooseRequests go to
OpenAIhttps://api.openai.com/
Geminihttps://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/
OpenRouterhttps://openrouter.ai/
xAIhttps://api.x.ai/
Cerebrashttps://api.cerebras.ai/
NVIDIAhttps://integrate.api.nvidia.com/

If the rewrite fails and Fall back to the original text is on (the default), the captured text is voiced as-is.

3. Spoken audio → your speech-to-text provider (optional)

Only if Read-along → Exact word timing is on. The audio of each voiced part is sent to the speech-to-text provider you chose, which returns when each word is spoken. The key is the one you entered there, or your existing key for the same provider.

You chooseRequests go to
Groqhttps://api.groq.com/
OpenAIhttps://api.openai.com/
ElevenLabshttps://api.elevenlabs.io/

4. Voice and model lists (only when you click Sync or Fetch)

Sync from account asks your voice provider for your voices; Fetch models asks your rewrite provider for its models.

5. What is never sent
